B A T T L E B E T W E E N t h e : detoxifying facial masks

I just recently bought the swisse clay mask after venturing into the great land of the MyChemist skincare aisle and saw that everything was on sale.
I bought the mask for ~$13 and the manuka honey was what persuaded me.
I know honey is very restoring for the skin, and it had other great natural ingredients like charcoal and aloe.
I was super excited to try it out!

After trying out the swisse mask, it reminded me so much of my sukin one so I decided to do a comparison.

I've had the sukin clay masque for a while now,
and I don't know what got into me but I got sucked into the 'buy 3 for the price of 2' so i got the 3 for $30.
I am still struggling to get through the 1st one.
I like the whole 'organic' products they have going on and after using the clay my skin does feel cleaner and radiant.

VERDICT -
SUKIN:
SIZE - 100mL
PRICE - $15 AUD

MADE IN -  Australia

Okay.
Before I start, I must admit...
this review may be biased.
Possibly because I am so sick of this product, and the looming unopened 2 bottles sitting on my shelf staring me down gives me anxiety.
But let me try be Switzerland.

The packaging is simplistic and nice, screams organic.
The scent of the product is just that standard clay smell with no other strong fragrances (which is what I want if I'm going for the organic products).
The texture is quite thick and it takes about 10-15 minutes for it to dry.

The product claims to have ingredients such as kale, spirulina, parsely, and chlorella which is the supegreens that are antioxidants and vitamins to promote healthy skin. Then the avocado and goji berry promote moisture.
That sounds pretty damn organic if you ask me.

After washing off the product, my face looks brighter and more radiant.
I think is used to quite enjoy the product and use it every other night after my shower because it felt pretty gentle on the skin.

But now it's just not that exciting anymore.

It's a decent product and have lasted for a decent amount of time, but someone please, take my 2 unopened jars away from me!

First impressions?
I was quite surprised that the product was grey/ charcoal coloured.
For some reason I was expecting it to be yellow and honey-like.
The charcoal and kaolin clay apparently draws the impurities out of your skin, manuka honey is antibacterial, salicylic acid is good for blemishes, aloe vera soothes the skin, and the algae hydrates it.

This already sounds more productive than what the sukin does with it's 'supergreens'.

The texture is more runny than the sukin mask, but still stays on the face nicely without dripping.
It takes about 10-15 minutes for the mask to dry and the cool thing is that you can actually see the mask change colours.
Your face feels SO tight when it's drying though.
Before you wash it off, you can see the areas of oil and impurities which is pretty cool.
After washing the mask off, my face does feel super fresh and soft.
I haven't really noticed the mask bringing a head to my forming pimples, but other reviews have stated that it did for them.

r e v i e w : SHU UEMURA - brow: sword eyebrow pencil

BRAND - Shu Uemura
PRODUCT - brow: sword
SHADE - Acorn
SIZE - 0.3g
PRICE - $48 AUD
EXPIRES IN - 24 months
MADE IN -  Japan

This was a gift from my cousin's girlfriend from Hong Kong (the same one that bought me the Shu Uemura cleansing oil) and I didn't know anything about this product before hand.
All i knew was that I love trying out new products.

PACKAGING -
My first impression of the actual product (since Shu Uemura's simplistic white box packaging always slays) is that the pencil feels quite plastic-y and cheap (?). Or maybe it is because it feels like the crayons we used in primary school, and it has the same sound when you tap it. Not that it really matters to be honest.
It has two lids on either side - one side has the pencil that is shaped like a angled sword, and the other side has the eyebrow brush.

You think that's it?
There's more.
If you unscrew the brush off, there is the pencil sharpener to keep the sharp sword shape.
I haven't tried it yet because 1) my eyebrows are so unshapely that sharpness of a pencil won't even be able to fix it and 2) I don't want to waste the product.

Then if you pull off the actual pencil bit, it has the whole cartridge which you can buy refills for (~$25).

I like the fact that one side has the pencil and the other has the brush because that is super convenient for on-the-go application / travelling.
However, the sharpener and refillable cartridge? meh.

APPLICATION -
The product is not very pigmented which makes it easy to use when you're in a rush / just need a little touch up for your brows.
Also I guess it prevents you from drawing in your brows too dark.
I have also noticed that it is quite waxy so it keeps your brows in order.

I like to draw a line under my brows at the front, then use the spooly to blend it up.
For the tail of my brow, i just like to shape it and fill it in.

THE VERDICT -
I have been using this pencil everyday since I've received it.
It's quick and easy, convenient, and fills in the sparse areas of my brows.
The colour is great for my natural brows.

Lovin' it!

f a v o u r i t e s : JAN

I never used to be a person that likes watching 'monthly favourites' on youtube.
But i was in the shower thinking about life (as you do), and i was thinking about how much i've recently come to like the Shu Uemura cleansing oil.

So this is where it beings...

Shu Uemura - Anti/Oxi Cleansing Oil
made in Japan

There's a range of different types of oils eg. for uneven skin tones, acne-prone/ oily skin, etc.
When my mom went to Hong Kong, I asked her to have a look for it (not really expecting her to buy it because it is so bloody expensive ~$77).
But my cousin's girlfriend actually bought it for me in Hong Kong as a gift, and she bought the big 450mL bottle. I was so surprised!
She chose for me this Anti/Oxi oil which is for skin refining and anti-dullness.

I'm not sure why but I didn't really enjoy using it at the start.
Possibly because I was left feeling oily afterwards and I didn't really feel like my face was clean.
But after i changed face cloths (another favourite product mentioned below), I began to use this cleanser religiously in January (roughly a year after I got the product).

After work I would be starving and would be too hungry to shower first, so I would use the cleansing oil just to get the makeup off my face.
The makeup really just melts off, and it's so good for the eyes without being too rough. I then do a quick rinse off and use my wet muslin face cloth to wipe/ dab it off.
I feel SO fresh afterwards.

It has no fragrance, and i feel like it really has made my skin smoother and brighter.
Totally loving it!
I started using it (very sparingly) since last year feburary, and now i still have half a bottle left.

Is $77 worth it?
Probably not as there are other brands that do more affordable cleansing oils, but I think it's such a luxurious product and it has made my skin feel better.
So if i was in a splurging mood, I would definitely buy another bottle.

(tip - use a good face cloth otherwise you will still feel oily afterwards)

Pai - muslin face cloth
made in Czech Republic, 100% organic cotton

I bought a pack off BeautyBay and I read really good reviews about using muslin cloths for the face.
Apparently it's a gentle enough exfoliation to use for eczema and babies.

I love it because it's not super thick and it's quite 'porous' so it feels so amazing when you use it with warm/ hot water and put the cloth over your face. It feels like you're steaming your face and really opening up the pores.
After using this to wash my face/ wash cleanser off with a gentle exfoliating motion, my face feels SO clean and refreshed.

I definitely recommend this, it's not too pricey either.
Perfect duo with the Shu Uemura cleansing oil.

Neutrogena - Hydro Boost night concentrate

My friend recommended this to me and OH how I love this product.
It is a gel/ watery consistency so it feel so light on the skin and it gets absorbed quickly.
It is oil-free and my skin instantly feels so hydrated without feeling oily or sticky.
I wake up with my skin feeling plump and rejuvenated.

Sometimes when my skin is feeling extra dry after cleansing or if I am sick, I'm not afraid to layer up this product on my skin.

(tip - Moisturising is key!
My skin was going through a crazy, painful, acne stage and I was using harsh products, scrubbing, over-cleansing, and not moisturising enough. That made it much worse.
I've now changed up my products and using more gentle/ sensitive washes with plenty of hydration from moisturisers, my skin has less bumps and it looks brighter.)

Rimmel London - Soul Session super gel nail polish

I used to be a matte type of girl wearing either white, black, or pink.
But I decided to try out this cool-toned nude and now I have been wearing it every day in January.

It is such a nice natural colour and the gel shiny finish from the top coat is great, lasting for about a week before it starts slowly chipping.
It looks like you have put a lot of effort into your nails, but it's just the formula of the polish making it look fly.
I have also tried doing some white accent art on top of the nude and it makes a good combo.

Veet - Epilator
I know, I am really behind on the epilators.

I just never used to have the need for it as I shaved whenever I needed to.
But it got to a stage where I got tired of having to shave my underarms after the second day or so.
I saw this on sale during the christmas period and I decided to give it a go.

I use it for my legs and underarms, and it's magical (especially the pits).
I haven't been counting, but because it essentially pulls the hair out from the roots I don't need to re-epilate for a few weeks!
It's a great feeling when you touch your pits to check if you need to shave before the basketball match, but oh! hair hasn't grown back yet!
In addition, it's cordless so you can carry this to wherever you like to epilate.

Now onto the question of pain.
I have a pretty high pain tolerance so it doesn't bother me too much.
You just have to make sure your skin is taut.

I bought this for about $50 which I think is one of the cheapest types, so it can only go up from there!

r e v i e w : birthday gifts

For my 22nd birthday, my friends got me a box of Sephora goodies that I was so excited about.
So I've decided to do a quick review on the products!

Kat Von D: lock-it featherweight primer
To be honest I didn't know much about this product and I'm not really a primer person.
But after trying this on a few times, i'm kind of liking it!
The texture of it was what caught my eye. Instead of having a silicon texture, this primer was more watery/gel-like.
I read the back of the packaging and it states that it is armed with 'Aloe Vera, Jojoba, Shea, and Vitamin B5', and I'm a sucker for these ingredients.
It also states to be, "Hydrating, Water Based, Weightless, Fragrance Free, Oil Free".
Hydrating? Sure
Water Based? Yep
Weightless? Yep
Fragrance Free? ... Not sure about that. It does have a feint shea/ 'organic' smell.
Oil Free? Cool

After wearing this primer, my skin actually looks smooth and the pores are less noticeable. It helped my foundation to not cling onto dry patches on my skin.
As for the staying power, I can never tell.

likes:
- made in USA
- the packaging
- watery consistency
- makes skin look plump, fresh, and smooth.
- doesn't cling onto dry patches

dislikes:
- (TINY bit of a smell)

Zoeva: EN TAUPE eyeshadow palette

First impressions of the product and packaging was good.
The packaging was nice and simple, but unfortunately there's no mirror.
The colours inside were a bit surprising. I'm not a big cool-toned person so blues and purples aren't my thing, but I tried it out and I'm happily surprised.
There's a good mixture of mattes, glitters, light and dark colours. So it's definitely a palette that can be used by itself... (except that there's no SUPER dark colour for the outer third or to line the eye).

likes:
- made in Italy
- both matte and shimmer shades
- good size
- buildable
- not a lot of fallout
- easy to blend
- "no parabens and no fragrances"

dislikes:
- no mirror

Becca x Jaclyn Hill: Shimmering Skin Perfector - Champagne Pop

I was most excited about this product because I've heard so much about this!
It's true what everyone thinks about this, it's magical!
The packaging is lovely, colour is great, and I legitimately wouldn't mind walking around looking like a disco ball with this on my face.
